NEWS from Ukraine, July 2002 Family Aid International's newsletter is now online. We welcome your comments. Practical ministry to orphans Thousands of children live in orphanages in Ukraine. In America, an orphan is defined as a child whose parents are dead. Ukraine has a different definition. It is a child who is no longer wanted in a family. With the breakdown of the family unit from alcoholism and substance abuse, children are the victims. Many children are brought to orphanages by their family and left, simply because they feel thay cannot care for them any longer. Others are abandoned and left to fend for themselves on the streets. The Ukrainian government estimates some 15,000 homeless children in Kiev alone. Many estimate the figure to be much higher. |

Special Back-to School Project On September 2nd, the children we are ministering to in these orphanages will resume classes. One of their greatest needs is school supplies: paper, pencils, erasers, crayons, rulers notebooks, etc. We have determined we are going to help these children with this need. For only $15, you can enable a child to have the needed school supplies and a new pair of shoes for the school year. Has God touched your heart to help these Ukrainian orphan children? If so, please send a gift today. Help as many of these children as you can. I will return to Ukraine August 22nd with the funds to purchase the shoes and school supplies. It will be delivered to the children on August 31st, just in time for them to start school with their need met. We thank those who have already responded and sent donations. The children are going to be so suprised! |
