NEWS from Ukraine, May 2002 Family Aid International's newsletter is now online. We welcome your comments. It was a warm spring day on March 31st as I departed Tulsa for Kiev, Ukraine. With much work planned, I was anxious to arrive and get started. The first order of business was a trip to Chernihov, 2 hours by car north of Kiev. Once there, we had meetings scheduled with churches, orphanages, a dental clinic and the shoe factory where we obtained several hundred pairs of shoes for the orphans in that city. On my return to Kiev, I was to conduct our fifth business seminar on Saturday, April 6th. |

Dentists from Grove, Oklahoma in Ukraine
Later that same afternoon, we visited a dental clinic downtown. A positive connection was made as the director offered us the use of the clinic for charity work with orphans. They were genuinely surprised and thankful when we left with them some dental instruments and medicines the Crawfords had brought with them.
In this mid-week service, there were well over a hundred believers. After I preached, Pastor Antonina gave an invitation and one older gentleman responded to the invitation to receive Christ. They told us he had been coming to services for some time, but had never repented until then.
Anatoliy and I met in March of 1999 and became fast friends. It soon became obvious the Lord had brought us togther and we began making plans to minister together. Over the course of time, as we shared with each other our vision for ministry, the concept of Family Aid International was born. Anatoliy was instrumental in getting FAI registered with the Ukrainian government as a humanitarian charity fund last year. Before leaving Chernihov, FAI distributed several hundred dollars for the purchase of basic neccessities for the children in the orphanages. Soap, shampoo and toothpaste were among the items purchased and distributed to the children. |

The Guest House is part of a large complex owned by a church in Kiev that operates an orphanage and medical clinic there. Visiting ministries can stay there for a fraction of the cost of renting hotel rooms. It even sports a kitchen/dining room that has been "westernized" for the sake of ministers visiting from America. |

FAI partners with other ministries..
A meeting was held with Susan Schrader, founder of Children's Hope International, to discuss a building project in a small town near Mirgorad. Audrey Crawford had come to Ukraine a few years ago with Susan and this trip was to explore the possibility of conducting a dental clinic in that region. Seated left to right, back row, Yuriy Yurchenko, interpreter and director of FAI Computer Technology Center, Anatoliy Belonozshka, national director FAI, David Tinney and Stan Crawford. Front row, left to right, Olga Holpina, FAI staff interpreter/admin. assistant, Susan Schrader, President Children's Hope International, Pastor Igor from Mirgorad, and Audrey Crawford. |

Seminars help break the curse of poverty.. Last fall, I felt impressed by the Lord to begin hosting Christian business seminars, teaching Biblical principles of success and leadership. These seminars have been successful and are gaining momentum. To date, I have conducted five with three more scheduled over the course of this year.
Also partnering with us in these seminars is Sunday Adeleja, pastor of the Embassy of God Church in Kiev, one the largest churches in Europe, with over 20,000 members. Pastor Sunday shared how God uses business people to finance the extension of the Kingdom of God. Pastor Valentina, Business Pastor of the Embassy of God Church shared how business relationships are important to success. The purpose of these seminars is to establish Biblical principles of business and success. If Ukraine is to break free from the poverty brought on by over 70 years of Communist rule, and I believe she will, it will be Christian business leaders who lead the way. The fruit of these seminars is evident, Ukrainian business people are partnering with us in ministry and church leaders are endorsing the meetings. I have been invited to participate in the first International Christian Business Seminar in Kiev the first week of October. A few thousand Christian business people from Europe, Africa and Asia are expected to attend. Books will go where I cannot go.. In preparation for this event, I am in the process of compiling my teaching notes into book form for printing later this summer. The plan is to publish initially 5,000 copies in the Russian language and the business seminars will be used as an avenue to sell them at the modest price of $1.50 a copy. Profits derived from the book sales will help support our monthly ministry expenses in Ukraine. I strongly believe in the power and endurance of the printed page. Ukraine boasts a literacy rate of 100% and is known historically as a nation with a strong emphasis on education. With the teachings in printed form, the books will reach farther than I would ever personally be able to go. Clowning team set to go..
Last summer, our clown team ministered effectively to children during the music festivals held in Chernihov and Brovary. Not only was the clown team effective, but in every city we ministered in, the interpretors, pastors wives, and staff wanted to be a part of the clown team and did so with great enthusiasm!
These are in use today in Ukraine. We will take more with us this time and, no doubt, we will "convert" some more new clowns. At the left, Justin Hargrove of Texas and Vitaliy Yemets of Kiev are doing a skit before a few hundred children in Brovary last summer. Requesting prayer.. Pray for this team as they go to minister to several hundred children who have been abandoned, neglected and rejected. Pray that we would be able to communicate effectively the love, acceptance and forgivness of God that is found in Jesus Christ. Next Issue of News from Ukraine.. Next month we'll feature one of our staff who works for us in Ukraine as well as a report on the clown ministry and business seminar this month. |
